Hey guys! So I know I have not been consistent on here, but it's for good reason! I've been working hard on several tv shows and productions! So happy and excited about it all. I am currently working on Love and Hip Hop Atlanta Season 2 as well as Style Network's new spinoff show Big Rich Atlanta.  I previously was able to work on RHOA with Kenya Moore and you may see me in a few cameos on the show ;)

As I've been working on these productions, I've noticed in HD EVERYTHING shows up so great foundation coverage is key. Here's my take on what's worked for me on tv/film.

In My Kit:
Makeup Forever HD Foundation
Pros: I love the coverage and how it appears on camera. It doesn't oxidize much either
Cons: I feel the colors are not warm enough on darker skintones and I have to mix/adjust colors a lot

MAC Matchmaster Foundation
Pros: I love the colors on ethnic skin, especially really dark skin. It looks vibrant and not dull! Great coverage as well
Cons: I feel like it looks oily on skin sometimes but can be combated with a matifying primer and set with powder

Black Opal Foundation Sticks
Pros: Wonderful medium to full coverage on ethnic skin. Great price point too!
Cons: Only for ethnic skin. That isn't really a bad thing, but I want them for other skin tones at the same price! lol

Other mentions I must have to accompany these products:
Laura Mercier Secret Camoflauge
Makeup Forever concealer palettes
Bobbi Brown concealer in Golden
Ben Nye Banana Powder/Mojave Luxury Collection
Laura Mercier Oil Free Primer

Prom Photoshoot with Crush by RJ Formals

Photo by Laretta Houston, makeup by MiMi J, Hair by Zara Green, Styling by Robert Ballew
Last week I had the pleasure of working with an awesome formal dress designer and her prom dress collection Crush by RJ Formals! It was a 3 day shoot and we put in a lot of work shooting over 100 dresses! For those of you that know me, know that I love to do flirty yet pretty makeup and this was a great assignment for that type of makeup look. Lots of blush, fresh-looking skin, lashes, and pink lips! Check out some of the shot and behind the scene pics. Be sure  to check out Crush's website at http://www.crushprom.com/.  (ps, thanks Robin for sharing some shots on Facebook!)

What's in the Makeup Kit

I often get asked what I personally carry in my makeup kit. Well I could spend all day detailing every single piece, but I'll highlight a few essentials and my favorite investments!

1) Brushes. I have a variety of brushes from different brands like Sigma and MAC. (A stipple brush is a must, along with an angled blush brush, round MAC 109, and a very small angled brush for brows and liner)

2) Foundations. I carry a variety of foundation types. For a Matte finish and especially for TV/HD cameras I use Makeup forever HD foundation. For dewy finish I prefer to use MAC Face and Body.

3) Concealers: I have used many concealers and honestly Bobbi Brown is my fave, but I currently carry Makeup Forever palettes No1 and No4 along with some random Ben Nye colors.

4) Powders: I have a bunch, but I condensed my kit to a few Ben Nye powders, Makeup Forever Super Matte Loose Powders, NARS Albatross Highlighting Powder, and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Powders.

5) Lips: Too many to name but I love NARS and MAC lipsticks, lip glosses and lip liners. However I do have some glosses and lipsticks from NYX, Milani, and L'Oreal that work just as well.

6) Eyes: There's way too much to name here but I have a slew of MAC eye shadows, Too Faced Eye Shadow Insurance, Maybelline Waterproof Falsies, and Duo glue stay in my kit.

7) Lighting: Glamcor travel lighting system are my most recent investment.

8) Travel Case: Zuca Sport Pro

9) Miscellaneous Stuff: Wipes, Sponges, Glycerin, Milk of Magnesia, Hair pins/clips, Makeup Forever Flash Color palette, spatula/steel plate, and Laura Mercier Foundation Primer.

Until next time....have a POSH PRETTY day!

Beauty Behind the Beat: Video Director Sequoia B.

photo by Laretta Houston, Makeup by MiMi J
You don't find too many women directing videos these days so I wanted to highlight a very talented young lady who is on the rise. Her name is Sequoia B. and she's already gotten to work with some great talent like Justin Bieber, Day 26, Diggy Simmons, Kandi Burress, and the OMG girls just to name a few.

I had the pleasure of working with Sequoia on a photoshoot and got to do her makeup while simultaneously getting to know her and her work. Check out my interview with her and check out her work in the video as well!

Cynthia Bailey for Obvious Magazine

A little while ago I got the change to work with model/reality tv star Cynthia Bailey. It wasn't my first encounter with her as I visited with her at her agency, The Bailey Agency, here is Atlanta. She is a very down-to-earth person and was extremely easy to work with! (No divatudes with her!) Check out the cover shot that will be published in Obvious Magazine as well as some behind the scene shots I took on set.
